Book Synopsis

There are only three things that matter to Alice Alexis Queensmeadow:  Mother, who wouldn’t miss her; magic and color, which seem to elude her; and, most important of all, Father, who always love her.  It’s been almost three years since the day father disappeared from Ferenwood with nothing but a ruler in his pocket, but Alice is determined to find him.  She love her father even more than she loves adventure, and she’ll have to embark on one to find the other.

To bring father home, Alice will travel  through the mythical, dangerous and of Futhermore, where down can be up, paper is alive, and left can be both right and very, very wrong.  Her only companion is a boy named Oliver, who is an experienced guide with his own tangled secrets.  it will take all of Alice’s wits to make it through Furthermore and hold fast to the magic of love in the face of uncertainty and loss.

My thoughts

I was so excited to finally get this book from my TBR pile and once I read it I was disappointed, I loved the first book in the Shatter Me Series but this story just wasn’t for me.

We follow Alice Alexis Queensmeadow a girl with no color in a very colorful world.  Her father left and haven’t been seen for three years.  Alice sees an opportunity to go searching for her father so she goes on an adventure with a boy named Oliver, this boy Oliver used to be Alice’s bully.

I found the characters to be very annoying, Oliver has a secret that he kept for way too long and the secret at least for me, wasn’t really a secret.  The world was very interesting but the characters were so annoying for me to even enjoy the story.

I found this book reminded me of A Series of Unfortunate Events, the way the story was told I was like is this supposed to be like one of those books.  The story dragged for me and the ending came way too quick I was like what???? all of this to have a rushed ending.

The story felt whimsical at times, and I kind of liked some the situations they found themselves in, but it was not enough for me to get connected with the story or the characters.

  1. Oh no, well that sucks Lourdes! I purchased this book last October at NYC Comiccon cuz of course cover and I’m a fan of anything Alice in Wonderland. I’ve heard mixed reviews for this one which is probably why I’ve procrastinated in reading it. I’ve never read anything by Mafi so this is supposed to be my 1st book by her 😦

  2. I don’t know why but I couldn’t get into this book at all. I was hoping your review would tell me I was mistaken and should try again, but I guess we’re on the same page here!
