Book synopsis

IT’S A GAME OF

ASSASSIN

VERSUS

ASSASSIN.

Girton Club-Foot has no family, a crippled leg, and is apprenticed to the best assassin in the land.

He’s learning the art of taking lives, but his latest mission is far more difficult: save a life.  Someone is trying to kill the heir to the throne, and it’s up to Girton to uncover the traitor and prevent the prince’s murder – and his own.

Age of Assassins is the first in an epic new trilogy set in a world ravage by magic, featuring a cast of assassins, knights, ambitious nobleman, and fools.

My thoughts

OK, I will try to give up any spoilers but it’s hard to do when this book was so good and I’m so happy that I have it in my hands, and yeah I’ll be gushing without spoilers I promise.   So the first thing that got my attention here was the cover and what is said to catch an assassin, use an assassin and it didn’t disappoint at all.  I loved everything from beginning to end.

The story is told by our main character Girton Club-Foot an assassin with a disability, when I first read the blur I was like that name but I’m telling you this story is so good, it has the great epic fantasy things I love world-building, great plot and mystery and there is not a bad thing I can say about this story and I can’t believe this is a debut novel it is incredibly good.

We also get some great interactions and great friendships are forged.  We get battle scene and the very annoying character too.  The relationship between Master and apprentice is one that I loved and enjoy in the story.  The mystery and the plot twist towards the end had me questioning myself how did I not see that coming, it was so good and unexpected.  I know I’m not giving you much but if you read the synopsis that pretty much all you will need to know to get to the story.

Overall, I loved this story and I think it’s an amazing debut from RJ Barker and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the books in this new trilogy, and if you are new to epic fantasy this is a great start.
