Goodreads Synopsis

Dear stranger…

A desperate young woman in Southern California sits down to write a letter to a man she’s never met—a choice that will forever change both their lives.

My heart goes out to you, David. Even though I do not know you…

The correspondence between Carrie Allsop and David Mayer reveals, piece by piece, the painful details of a devastating affair between their spouses. With each commiserating scratch of the pen, they confess their fears and bare their souls. They share the bewilderment over how things went so wrong and come to wonder where to go from here.

Told entirely through the letters of two comforting strangers and those of two illicit lovers, Evidence of the Affair explores the complex nature of the heart. And ultimately, for one woman, how liberating it can be when it’s broken.

My thoughts

I will start by saying WOW! to be honest I was expecting this story to be your typical cheating husband/wife story but was I wrong, seriously I was completely taken by this short story from the very beginning it got me completely immersed in the story.

Dear Mr. David Mayer,
My name is Carrie Allsop. Please accept my apologies for contacting you out of the blue. I am writing to ask a quite humbling favor. I recently found some love letters in my husband’s briefcase that I believe to be from your wife, Janet…

This story takes place in the 1970’s and it’s told in letters written by cheating spouses and these letters are discovered by the spouses of said cheating spouses.  I can’t believe how much I liked this story and the friendship that was born out of this sad events. Carrie and David found solace in each other and they both were able to be each other’s support thru all of this.

I usually stay away from stories like these because I feel that sometimes cheating stories are so badly written but this one I liked a lot, maybe it was the characters and how real they felt to me or maybe it was just what I need it right now but gosh this short story really had me up in my feelings and the ending I really had to read it twice!

I will wholeheartedly recommend this story is a quick read and a very well written story.  So go treat yourself as of right now its free on Amazon Prime so you have absolutely nothing to loose.

I’m so glad I picked it up and also, this was one of my reads for the ContemporaryAThon make sure to check it out.
