THEY SAY IT’S NOT THE FALL THAT KILLS YOU.
For Josette Dupre, the Aerial Signal Corp’s first female airship captain, it might just be a bullet in the back.
On top of patrolling the front the lines, she must also contend with a crew who doubts her expertise, a new airship that is an untested death trap, and the foppish aristocrat Lord Bernat, a gambler and a shameless flirt with the military know-how of thimble. Bernat’s own secret assignment is to catalog her every moment of weakness and indecission.
So when the enemy makes an unprecedented move that could turn the tide of war, can Josette deal with Bernat, rally her crew, and survive long enough to prove herself?
My Thoughts
This is a great first debut novel that is full action and wittiness. We follow Josette Dupre the first female airship captain and Lord Bernat described as a foppish Aristocrat who was assigned to spy on Josette by his uncle the army general.
Most of the story takes place on board of an innovative airship called The Mistral, both the airship and the battle scene were perfectly described it was like actually being in the story.
The main characters were well developed. Josette Dupre became the captain of The Mistral but had to face discrimination and prove herself worthy of the position at all times. I found her to be both cocky and insecure at times, but did liked her a lot and would like to know more about the relationship with her mother. Then we have Lord Bernat a gambler and a shameless flirt, I have to say I disliked him from the very beginning, he did grow on me but I would like to see him fully redeemed. I loved the dialogue between the two main characters it kept me engaged and sometimes laughing out loud. We also get the
This is a steampunk, military fantasy story full of humor and friendship, We shall see what decisions Bernat makes in the future.
This book is the first book in the Signal Airship series, not sure how many books there will be but I definitely can’t wait for the next book to come out.
Great Review! The illustrations look pretty damn good ❤
Also, if it's not too much trouble, I would love it if you could check out my review of it on my blog!
