This book has all the perfect Gothic elements—an eerie house, dark secrets, hauntings, and a mysterious garden. The atmosphere was so well done, creating a spooky yet cozy vibe.

Olivia Prior has never truly belonged. Left at Merilance School for Girls with only her mother’s journal, she has always longed for a home. When she receives a letter from an uncle she never knew, inviting her to Gallant, she jumps at the chance—only to be told upon arrival that her uncle never sent the letter and she should have never come. As Olivia explores Gallant, she uncovers its secrets, including a decaying mirror image of the house, where death itself waits—and wants to escape.

I was hooked from the start. Olivia, though silent, was such an expressive and compelling main character. The gothic atmosphere was immersive, and I especially loved the ghouls—they were my favorite part, and I wish we got to learn even more about them. The story is a bit slow-paced, which might not be for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in the eerie mystery of Gallant.
