Book Synopsis

Our universe is ruled by physics

faster than light travel is impossible- until the discovery of the Flow, and extradimensional field available at certain points in space-time, which can take us to other planets around other stars.  Riding the Flow, humanity spreads to innumerable other worlds.  Earth is forgotten.  A new Empire arises, the Interdenpendency, based on the doctrine that no one human outpost can survive without the others.  it’s a hedge  against interstellar war – and, for the empire’s rulers, a system of control.

the flow is eternal but it’s not static.  Just as a river changes course, the Flow changes as well.  In rare cases, entire worlds have been cut off from the rest of humanity.  When it’s discovered that the entire Flow is moving, possibly separating human worlds from one another forever, three individuals a scientist, a starship captain, and the emperox of the Interdependency must race against time to discover what, if anything can be salvaged from an Interstellar empire on the brink of collapse.

My thoughts

I LOVED IT!!!! This is the first time I read anything by John Scalzi and now I’m a fan I will be picking up the Old Man’s War and Redshirts I’ve been hearing about.  Ok, so I’m not sure how many other books will be in the series but I can’t wait for the next title, so why did I rated this book so high well, lets get into that now.

This is a new Space-Opera series like stated above not sure how many books will be in the series but this first one got me hooked from the beginning.  I will not give much of the plot or anything at all if you read the book synopsis you will pretty much know about it by now, and it’s a great start to a new series.

We have many characters that even though come across like A**holes are all very interesting and likable yes, I said likable I liked them all the good, the bad and the rest.  Two of the main characters are women, first we have Cardenia a newly appointed Emperox, Kivia the starship captain (the one with the most f*cks) and Marce the scientist, but Kivia is definitly my favorite character of them all.

The world building was spectacular, The Interdepency which consists of other nations and they all need each other to survive and the way to travel from one nation to the next is thru the Flow.  A very interesting concept.

the story overall was one I really enjoyed, I do recommend it if  you like political intrigue, wit and sarcasm but I will have to say one of character’s language includes a f*uck in every sentence but if you don’t mind that kind of language (and I don’t) then check it out.

P.S.  I received a reviewer’s copy from the Publisher all opinions are my own.
