Book Synopsis

ALL HADLEY WANT IS FOR EVERYTHING TO GO BACK TO THE WAY IT USED TO BE

Back when she didn’t have to share her mother with her stepfather and stepbrother.  Back when she wasn’t forced to live in a musty, decomposing house.  Back when she had a life in the city with her friends.  As Hadley whiles away what’s left of her summer, exploring the nearby woods and splitting her time between her strange, bug-obsessed neighbor, Gabe, and the nice old lady who lives above the garage, she begins to notice that the house isn’t just dark and creaky.  It’s full of secrets, like the appearance of a mysterious dollhouse and its family of perfect dolls.  Oh, how Hadley wishes her family were more like those lovely dolls!  Then, one day, she discovers a lone glass eye rolling around on the floor of the attic.  As she holds it close one night, her whole world changes.  Forever.

I love Marina Cohen! this is the second book I read from her and she is now an auto buy for me. I loved the first book I read from her The Inn Between I loved every page and this one is no different.  I’m sure you’re asking if you loved it why that rating well, 4.5 *s is NOT A BAD RATING but I’ll get to it in a second.  I will try to keep this (like all my reviews) short and sweet.

In the story we follow Hadley and the family but this is Hadley’s story.  Hadley is taken from the city where she had lived all her life and moved to the suburbs to a new old house.  This house comes with a tenant a very creepy tenant.  At the beginning of the story we get Hadley’s complain about her annoying little stepbrother at first I found that annoying but then I was like when you are an only child for so long and another comes along well not every kid is going to be happy especially if that new brother has a very special diet and Hadley is made to eat only the things he’s able to eat and this kid was allergic to everything I mean EVERYTHING,  but other than that I found him to  be kind of cute for a little brother.

Hadley is so unhappy with her life and family situation that she starts making wishes that she eventually regrets (I’m keeping this spoiler free so I can’t say much) and a series a strange things starts happening like finding a doll’s eye ball and a doll’s house and did I mentioned the creepy tenant.

This story is the perfect kind of creepy, Marina Cohen knows how to do creepiness perfectly, I’m not one to read creepy stuff or horror stories but I’ll have one of her creepy stories any time.

The reason for the rating was the ending, it wasn’t bad at all but I wanted something different.  I know this is not my story but I wanted something else like I mentioned the ending was not bad it was not what I was expecting.

Overall, I LOVED THIS READ  and I do recommend it if you like creepy story this is the perfect one! and the book comes with some beautiful illustrations too! and her book covers are sooooo beautiful as well.  I can’t wait to see what else Marina comes up with next.

  1. You really make it seem so easy along with your presentation however I to find this topic to be really one thing that I feel I might never understand. It kind of feels too complicated and extremely wide for me. I am taking a look ahead to your next put up, I will try to get the hang of it!
